Introducing Auntie Jodi's Baking Co

Auntie Jodi’s Baking Co was founded by a homesick Canadian looking to keep her family recipes going. After some success baking at home with locally sourced ingredients, Auntie Jodi’s Baking Co has flourished. Here Jodi shares more about the delicious blends they create and their commitment to helping people like her looking to fill their pumpkin spice cravings!

TGFC/ How did you get started?
Jodi/ I really missed Pumpkin Spice after moving to New Zealand. I wanted to keep my family tradition going of making Pumpkin Pie but it was quite difficult to do in New Zealand as you have to roast then puree the pumpkin yourself to bake with, as pumpkin puree isn't readily available.

My partner suggested using dry pumpkin as he was familiar with it, I said it would never work with my family recipes! Then last year during the cyclones we couldn't leave our house and had nothing else to do but bake. I agreed to finally try making a Pumpkin Pie with the dried pumpkin and it worked, it tasted like home!

I figured there would be more people out there like myself looking to fill their pumpkin spice cravings and we decided to start selling our kits to make it more accessible.

TGFC/ What makes Auntie Jodi's Baking Co special?
Jodi/ Our kits feature dry pumpkin, which means you don't need to roast and puree a pumpkin yourself to bake with. It is the only one of its kind out in the market and we also use organic spices and locally grown pumpkins.

TGFC/ What is your favourite product in the Auntie Jodi's Baking Co range?

Jodi/ I would say the Pumpkin Pie Kit. It's my Great Grandma's recipe so it means a lot to me when people tell me how much they enjoy it. It makes me feel like I have my family here with me on this journey and not on the other side of the world.

TGFC/ What are the most popular products you sell?
Jodi/ Good question! It is always back and forth between the Pumpkin Pie Kit and the Pumpkin Loaf Kit on which is our most popular product. However, now that we are coming into winter, the Pumpkin Spice Latte is slowly creeping up to be in the lead!

TGFC/ The story behind Auntie Jodi's is really heartwarming. Is there anything else you'd like to share with us?
Jodi/ Last year we received a food review from Sh1teater and they mentioned Pumpkin Pie could be the unofficial dessert of Matariki which was a real honour. We've also been featured in Junction Magazine.
