TGFC/ How did you get started?
Mare/ Flour and Dough was started long before I realised. I loved food, baking and experimenting in the kitchen as a mere student living on minimum wage!
When we had kids, we had to think about what to do next and we didn’t think returning to work would be viable to pay the bills, kindy fees and everything else. Unfortunately, everything that I can do revolves around working in the CBD. This wouldn’t work for us as my hubby had a gruelling job already and one of us needed to be more accessible for the kids. We put our heads together to see what and where I could fit in.
We looked into business ventures and none went past the information stage. Then our beautiful neighbours came around for dinner and I made a beer bread. They were blown away and couldn’t believe it was made with beer! They told me day after day, week after week that this is the business that I needed to do.
To say it was hard is an understatement. I made sooo many mistakes, so many late nights, so many what ifs and why nots. But, I tried, I tested, I failed too many times to count, but I succeeded a handful of times, which gave me hope. Looking back on how far I have come is honestly amazing!
TGFC/ What's your goal with Flour & Dough?
Mare/Our lives are busy enough and to add food and the ongoing need for healthy living and keeping the environment healthy, all adds unnecessary stress to our daily lives. The Flour & Dough mixes have been made with the busy parent in mind, they are quick and easy to prepare and only take about 20 minutes in the oven. Then you and your family can enjoy a delicious treat or a healthy option!
TGFC/ What makes your product(s) special?
Mare/ My recipes are all my own and are ones that I have used for years. My dream is to spread the love and keep the idea of having everything quick and easy to prepare and utterly delicious!
TGFC/ Have you had any challenges?
Mare/ A few years back, I was trying to keep everyone and everything happy and healthy. I tried my hand at gluten free baking, gluten free bread to be exact, well, that was a interesting journey! I have mastered it now.
TGFC/ Do you have a favourite product?
Mare/ One of my go to recipes is the same beer bread I use in the baking mixes I now sell! It never flopped or turned its back on me, it just always did what I wanted, when I wanted. Over the years I have concocted many a different variety and idea of how to use it!
When embarking on the wonderful keto diet journey, I realized that this gluten free bread mix was also the perfect keto bread mix! What a win that was!
