Southern Mushrooms are on a mission to bring gourmet-quality mushrooms to New Zealanders. Established by Ciprian in 2021, Southern Mushrooms specialises in premium foraged and cultivated mushrooms that has captivated chefs and food lovers alike. TGFC/ How did you get started?

Ciprian/I founded Southern Mushrooms Ltd in 2021 with a mission to provide a superior and unique culinary experience cantered around mushrooms. Dedicated to quality, I carefully forage and meticulously clean wild mushrooms while also sourcing cultivated varieties, which we use to create our delicious smoked oyster mushrooms. Every product we offer meets the highest standards, ensuring a gourmet experience with every bite.

TGFC/ What makes Southern Mushrooms special?
Ciprian/ Our dried porcini mushrooms, foraged from New Zealand, are of the highest quality, offering a rich, earthy umami flavour.
Our smoked oyster mushrooms are truly unique, with few products like it on the market. Their incredible smoky taste consistently gets rave reviews from chefs and customers. Plus, they’re a two-in-one product—the oil can be used in salads, cooking, or as a dressing.

Both deliver gourmet quality and exceptional flavour to elevate any dish.

TGFC/ Do you have a favourite creation?

Ciprian/ Our favourite would certainly be the Smoked Oyster Mushrooms simply because of the reaction from consumers and the versatility of the product. I personally also love to eat it in meals and share it with groups of people if at events.

TGFC/What is your most popular product?

Ciprian/ The Smoked Oyster Mushrooms are our most sold product,however our dried porcini mushrooms also get fantastic reviews from people who cook with them because of their intense flavour and many uses in dishes.

Ciprian/ We’re passionate about sharing the incredible flavours of wild and cultivated mushrooms with food lovers across New Zealand. Our focus is on quality, sustainability, and creating unique products—like our smoked oyster mushrooms—that stand out in the market.
