The Good Food Collective is proud to be working with Emily Walker, a New Zealand illustrator, to bring you another amazing Kiwi offering. Emily illustrates a range of artwork including cards that you can add to any giftbox order to send a special message to the lucky recipient. We took a few minutes to find out more about Emily and her work.
TGFC - Kia ora Emily, as you know we love your work. How did you get started with illustration?
EW - I've always loved drawing and painting, and just about every form of artistic expression. I've worked as a hair stylist and created special-effect makeup, face painting and bodypainting. When I had my children and started reading them picture books, I fell in love with the idea of illustrating picture books and that expanded into greeting cards and artprints.
TGFC - That's so interesting. What was it about illustrating that captured your attention?
EW - I was inspired by the idea of being able to transport children (and adults) into a limited imagined world with characters that are limitless.
TGFC - Have you enjoyed it?
EW - Yes!
TGFC - What books have illustrated recently?
EW - In 2020 I illustrated two books, Mallory Mallory, Revenge of the Tooth Fairy written by James Norcliffe and published by Penguin Random House NZ, and Daddy Monster ABC written by Diane Neild and published by One Tree House NZ.
TGFC - Have you won any awards for your illustrations?
EW - In 2017 and 2019, I was awarded one of the finalists in the NZ Storylines Gavin Bishop Award.
TGFC - If anyone wants to contact you what's the best way to do that?
EW - If you have any questions about my work or whether I can help with your illustration needs, please email me.
